The Whānau Championship is what makes our Youth-Led Fishing Competition truly unique. While our rangatahi compete in the fishing competition, their whānau become an essential part of the day by supporting, encouraging, and participating alongside them.
Rather than standing on the sidelines, whānau earn points by taking part in a series of fun, family-friendly mini games and challenges throughout the day. Every point earned contributes towards the Whānau Championship Prize Pool, rewarding teamwork, participation, and community spirit.

Why we created this event
We didn't create this event simply to hold another fishing competition.......we created it to create leaders. Our vision is to keep rangatahi at the centre, giving them the opportunity to plan, lead, make decisions, and stand proudly at the front of their own kaupapa. Rather than adults leading young people, we are creating a space where rangatahi lead their whānau, and whānau walk beside them with encouragement, support, and belief. This day is about strengthening confidence, building leadership, reconnecting with te taiao, and celebrating the power of whānau standing behind their young people. Every cast, every challenge, and every achievement is another reminder that when we trust our rangatahi to lead, our entire community grows stronger together.
